Welcome to Harlem C. Boston's "SuperGirlz Empowered Chat!" It is a wonderful "whip appeal" Wednesday and I have romance author, Jayci Lee of A Sweet Mess and The Dating Dare.
Jayci Lee writes poignant, sexy, and laugh-out-loud romance every free second she can scavenge. She lives in sunny California with her tall-dark-and-handsome husband, two amazing boys with boundless energy, and a fluffy rescue whose cuteness is a major distraction. At times, she can cannot accommodate real life because her brain is full of drool worthy heroes and badass heroines clamoring to life.
Because of all the books demanding to be written, Jayci writes full-time now, and is semi-retired from her fifteen-year career as a litigator. She loves food, wine, and traveling, and incidentally so do her characters. Books have always helped her grow, dream and heal, and she hopes her books will do the same for you.
(Harlem Boston): Hello Jayci Lee, I'm so thrilled to have you here. Also, I am a big fan girl of A Sweet Mess and can't wait to read The Dating Dare. But before I get too carried away, we have so much to chat about, so let's get to it!
(Harlem Boston): Which one of your books made you fall in love that much more with writing?
(Jayci Lee): Temporary Wife Temptation, my debut Harlequin Desire. I learned how to be a writer while I revised that manuscript over a two and a half year period. And I loved the end result so much.
(Harlem Boston): Wow, that is really cool! I love hearing about the exciting lives of authors and their books so much.
(Harlem Boston): How did you get your first start in publishing?
(Jayci Lee): I cold submitted until I got "the call" from Harlequin. I signed with an agent soon after.
(Harlem Boston): That must have been really cool!!! Love Harlequin, by the way!
(Harlem Boston): Besides your own books, what kind of books are you into?
(Jayci Lee): I love romcoms, paranormal romance and fantasy.
(Harlem Boston): Heyyy, I love romcoms too. I never would have guessed that you like paranormal and fantasy. Wayyyy cool!
(Harlem Boston): When you officially became an author, what did it feel like?
(Jayci Lee): I stared off into space for like two days thinking, my dream finally came true. It was surreal.
(Harlem Boston): Major!!!!!! Just completely in dreamland... This is the place where we lovee hearing about dreams! Here's to dreams coming true!!!!
(Harlem Boston): Name something that has helped you to grow as a writer.
(Jayci Lee): The pandemic. I had to learn how to write despite all the distractions around me. If I write during the pandemic, then I could do anything.
(Harlem Boston): I loveee that!
(Harlem Boston): At what moment did you realize you had made it? What occurred exactly, if you can share?
(Jayci Lee): That hasn't happened, yet. I still feel very much like I'm just starting out.
(Harlem Boston): Well I for one think you are incredible, and I am inspired by you and fascinated with your books. So the best has yet to come, but it's coming soon.
(Harlem Boston): Who has been your greatest supporter?
(Jayci Lee): My agent has been my rock. She makes me feel seen and supported. Always.
(Harlem Boston): Well a special shout out to your agent.
(Harlem Boston): Where do you want to go next in publishing? Any special projects?
(Jayci Lee): I want to write urban fantasy based on Korean folklore. I actually started this project but got waylaid by all my other deadlines.
(Harlem Boston): Ooh that sounds like a whole lotta fun! I'm sure you'll get to it and it will be AWWWSOME!!!
(Harlem Boston): How do you know when a story is going to automatically get readers excited? Is there a certain emotion that you usually feel when it happens?
(Jayci Lee): Wow. Do other authors get this feeling? I feel like I have to work hard to earn every one of my readers' support. They have so many choices and it's an honor when they choose to read one of my books.
(Harlem Boston): Tell me about this new book of yours. What do you think sets this book apart from your previous releases?
(Jayci Lee): The Dating Dare is a fun, lighthearted, unapologetically corny romcom. I hope it gives my reader's the laughter and escape they deserve.
(Harlem Boston): I loveee corny romcoms. I know it is amazing, can't wait to dig in!!!!
(Harlem Boston): Which character have you written about that you wished you could have been for a day? What would you do first?
(Jayci Lee): Tara, the heroine of The Dating Dare. I want to brew the perfect beer and have a pint with my best friend.
(Harlem Boston): Jayci, you are sooo much FUN!!!!! I loveee it and here for it.
(Harlem Boston): When you take off your author hat, what other hats do you wear besides an author? How important are your other hats to you?
(Jayci Lee): My most important hat is my mom hat.
(Harlem Boston): A very important job. Hats off to you, Jayci! Okay, even though I'm having lots of fun, the fun ain't over yet. Let's go for more F-U-N!!!!!
Firecracker Round:
Part I:
(Harlem Boston): Walking into a boardroom meeting, you learn one of your book characters is now your boss, shocked at first, but you play it off, but as soon as the meeting is over, you confront him. What would that conversation consist of?
(Jayci Lee): It would be fun if Seth, the hero of The Dating Dare, turned out to be my boss. I would tell him we should play hooky and go have a fancy lunch on the company.
(Harlem Boston): Oh, I loveee this. Soooo much fun!!!! Whoopee!!!!
Fun Round:
Part II.
(Harlem Boston): Gummyworm Birthday Cake or Buttercream Cake?
(Jayci Lee): Buttercream cake please!
(Harlem Boston): Now I like you even more! Where is that Buttercream cake? Bring it on!!!!
Thank you, Jayci Lee for hanging with me today, and I can't wait to hang out once more! And Congratulations, on The Dating Dare which is currently available. Go ahead and show your support and purchase The Dating Dare, by Jayci Lee. You'll loveee it!!!!

Buzzfeed's 2021 Romance Novels You Need To Read This Summer
With witty characters and heartrending romance, Jayci Lee, author of A Sweet Mess, returns with The Dating Dare-where two people might just find out how hard it is to resist falling in love with the right person.
No serious relationshps. This is the one rule Tara Park made for herself and it has been working swimmingly, thank you very much. The occasional fling is fine, especially since she's busy with Weldon Brewery. But when Seth Kim, temptation personified and her best friend's new brother-in-law walks into her life, Tara might be willing to bend her golden rule... but only for four dates-the four dates she agreed to after a few good rounds of beer and a game of truth or dare. It'll be fun. No biggie.
Seth Kim can't believe Tara agreed to his dating dare. He's leaving for a new job in Paris in a month and a no-strings attached fling seemed like a nice little distraction for both... But their secret dates, while sweet and sexy, always hit roadblocks straight out of a romantic comedy. Thankfully, their non-dates and chance meetings are smoother, frequent, and heated. However, the more Seth sees of Tara, the less willing he is to let her go-and what was supposed to be a fun little game turns into something that neither of them are ready for.
But sometimes, the best things in life are the ones we never see coming.
Jayci Lee is such a SuperGirl Empowered! :)
